A nice way to find out if any plugins or snippets have been updated on codebase

I am losing track of codebase snippets which become out of date and need to be updated from codebase. It would be nice if I could know somehow that the snippet or plugin version I am using is out of date so I know which plugins and snippets to go and redownload and reinstall from the codebase.
