Restarting SQ 110

I have just installed new version SQ 110 build, when benchmark is around 80% my computer restarts because kernel power problems, it does only happen with this version, I have used 108 and 109 without these kind of problems. I also tried to update from 109 to 110 but when I hit start in building it also restarted. I have attached the log from clean 110 build install

Martin, do you mean that computer restarted? Not just SQ crashed?

does it happen every time you start build?

I would say this would be related to your computer, perhaps some bad sectors in memory chip, because Windows shoul be able to handle it otherwise.

Please try also look at your SQ configuration in Performance. Don't you have it configured to use more memory than is your RAM? I think the default setting is 32 GB, it might be too much for your computer.

I performed a check of my memory recently and It was ok. I changed 32 GB to 16gb max, because my computer has only 32gb still my computer restarted, It only happens with this new version.

During previous versions I have been giving SQ a max of 32 gb which is my actual memory and I didn't have problems until build 109 which after 1 hour and a half used to stop and say memory over 85%. I am working now with build 108 because as I said even if I set max memory to 16gb in build 110 my computer almost instantly restarts.

there is one possible reason for this - we upgraded to Java 10 in Build 109. Build 108 still used Java 8.

This shouldn't have causen any problems, but maybe it is crashing your computer.

Can you try running 110 version with Java 8?

To do it:

- copy the folder j64 from your Build 108 installation to your 110 installation - rename the one existing in 110 installation to something else.

- Then delete the file /internal/libs/Snippets.jar and start SQ.

- After start you'll probably see a warning dialog about G1 garbage collector, you can ignore it and click No.

Then work with your 110 installation as usual - see if there will be computer crash or not.

Please let me know the result.

It worked at least It didnt restart inmediately, i'll let It run for some hours but It solved the problem for now. Is It due to my computer or is there something that i might do?

it looks like an error in Java 10 in connection to your computer. I'm not sure how to solve it, because it is not something in SQ itself.

You can continue to use Java 8, but we should find teh cause of these problems.

The strange thing is that it restarts your computer, doesn't just crash the application.

Do you have SQ configured to use offheap memory in Performance settings?

I think it is not necessary. If your SQ didn't crash after this change then the problem is in Java 10.

Maybe you can find out why exactly Windows crashed before. There is an article about it here: https://www.howtogeek.com/222730/how-to-find-out-why-your-windows-pc-crashed-or-froze/

You can open Reliability history also by opening your Control panel, then typing reliability in the search field on the top right.

Maybe there will be some useful information that will tell us why it crashes your computer.

Status changed from Waiting for information to Fixed

ok, I'll set it to fixed. It is clearly related to some hardware or OS issue, in connection with Java 10.
