Hi Mark
After running SQX 116 on 2x PC's for a whole week, collating in Builder 'Results' databanks >1800 potential strategies, there was a momentary drop-out of my electricity supply last night, forcing both my PC's to crash and re-start. Much to my surprise I completely lost the whole week's worth of strategies in both 'Results' databanks. This would not have happened with SQ 3.8.2, which always saved all strategies in Build Strategies 'Databank' to disk; recognised a crash event and give option to restore these strategies upon re-start of SQ 3.8.2. Much to my dismay, this clearly does not happen by default with SQX 116:
- Why did this happen with SQX 116?
- Is there any way to recover my week's worth of strategies that were previously placed in the 'Results' databank, or are they now lost forever?
- What can I do now, to avoid this situation repeating in future? i.e. all potential strategies in Builder 'Results' databank to be saved to disk, and not lost upon SQX or PC crash?
- I notice in 'Configuration\Databanks' there is setting 'Use file based databanks', but this setting is not activated by default and is marked as 'Not Recommended' due to causing SQX to slow down. Would activating this setting have saved my week's worth of strategies located in Results databank? If so, I suggest you alter description to clearly indicate to all users that not activating this setting will result in the complete loss of strategies in Builder 'Results' databank, upon crash of SQX or PC
- Does SQX need to be modified to prevent this situation repeating in future, or is activation of the above setting the correct and most efficient solution? I am mainly interested in saving to disk those strategies that have already been added to Builder 'Results' databank. I am far less concerned about saving to disk 'Initial population' or 'Last generation' strategies.
Thanks
